About the event
This event is part of the California Biodiversity Day state-wide event week. As part of this event, we invite you to take a challenge - "Find 30 species for CA 30x30". This event will continue throughout the entire week - 9/3-9/11, and you will have to join the project in order to participate. From the project description: "Your observations of plants, animals, fungi, and other species in California will help inform the California 30x30 initiative, to conserve 30% of California's lands and coastal waters by 2030. Go out and explore your neighborhood or local park, take a hike or explore the coast, or join in one of the many CA Biodiversity Week events being held across the state!". To learn more about it, join a webinar on 9/6, with leading citizen scientists, including Merav Vonshak :)
About our event: a fall BioBlitz is the perfect opportunity to get to know some of our less known local insects - the tiny wasps that induce oak galls! Shade Oaks Park has some wonderful Valley Oaks and Coast Live Oaks, with plenty of galls. By the way, these are tiny wasps, incapable of stinging. They are only interested in specific species of oaks, where they live in a special structure called galls. Intrigued? Join us, and learn more about them. Can't wait?
