About the event
During the event, we gave a presentation about spiders in general and tarantulas in particular. We also talked about other interesting fall arthropods, mainly the beautiful oak galls. We also talked about the Coe Park mountain lion project, followed by a short hike. On the hike we saw some late summer/ early fall flowers, many oak galls, on valley, blue, and canyon live oak. We looked at scat, and tried to identify the animal by looking at its diet. We saw one tarantula's home, or burrow, but didn't encounter any tarantulas on the trail.
Two minutes after we said goodbyes, and people went back on their way home, we found a handsome male tarantula right behind the barn where we had the presentation. We were able to call back some of the people, who enjoyed viewing it!
